Healthcare Technology and News: Sonitor Unveils Battery-Powered Ultrasound Receiver, Care-Provider Staff Tag

Sonitor Technologies, a company that specializes in ultrasound-based real time locating systems for hospitals and long-term care facilities, unveiled a battery-operated ultrasound receiver and care-provider Staff Tag.

Company sources explained that the battery operated ultrasound receivers will be part of the company’s line of high definition receivers. These will not require an external power source or wired network connection. Also, the battery-powered WiFi receiver can be located easily in places where positioning detection is needed for providing sub-room capability.

The newly introduced Staff Tag was developed after consulting healthcare information technology providers and their hospital clients. These are small and light weight allowing personal identification which can be attached easily to provide an integrated badge system. The Staff Tag has two buttons and a multi-color LED for enabling the user to communicate requests or status remotely.

The tags help save time and also improve workflow efficiencies. Also the Staff Tag is compatible with Sonitor’s client’s other workflow and visibility solutions. This along with Patient Tag and Equipment Tag leverage Sonitor’s sub-room location performance. This enables automatic functions like nurse-call cancellation and log-on/log-off access to patient information.

“These new products are further proof of our leadership in developing highly accurate locating systems utilizing Sonitor’s patented ultrasound technology,”  Dick Tabbutt, executive chairman of Sonitor Technologies, Inc. said. “Hospitals and long-term care facilities need reliable sub-room accuracy in their real time locating systems in order to achieve workflow and patient care improvements, and Sonitor is continuing to set the standard in delivering on that need.”

Sonitor plans to exhibit the two new products at the HIMSS 2010 conference to take place in Atlanta March 1 to 4 at the Georgia World Conference Center.

Sonitor Technologies specializes in ultrasound-based real time locating systems or RTLS for healthcare. The company develops and manufactures an RTLS platform that provides proven sub-room accuracy in complex healthcare environments such as hospitals and long-term care facilities.

Company sources said that the systems integrate seamlessly with application software from all major hospital information technology providers. The advanced functions of the devices are contained in the application software developed by Sonitor’s positioning solutions partners.
