Sagittal
A plane, slice or section of the body cutting from front to back through the sagittal suture of the skull, and continued down through the body in the same direction, dividing it into two parts.

Sampling Rate
The sampling rate is the number of samples taken per unit of time. In digital signal processing (Nyquist theory) it is necessary to sample twice as fast as the highest frequency component.

Scattered Echo
The scattered echo originates from relatively small, weakly reflective, irregularly shaped objects, and is less angle dependent and less intense. The mathematical treatment of non-specular reflection involves the Rayleigh probability density function (i.e. blood cells).

Scattering Strength
The scattering strength is proportional to the sixth power of the radius of the point scatterer, and furthermore inversely proportional to the fourth power of the ultrasound wavelength (i.e., proportional to the fourth power of the ultrasound frequency).
The scattering strength of a point scatterer is measured by cross-section scattering.
